Your Role as Head of technology
We are building a modern operating platform for a fast-growing utility engineering company managing hundreds of concurrent infrastructure projects, including EV installations and grid modernization programs.
We need a hands-on VP of Technology who has built systems from the ground up and can architect, execute, and scale a platform that powers project management, program oversight, and financial tracking.
This is not a maintenance role.
This is a build-and-own mandate.
What You Will Own
You will architect and lead the development of our core operational platform built around Airtable as the data backbone, with custom UI, workflow automation, and financial tracking layers on top.
You will:
• Design scalable system architecture from first principles
• Build clean, extensible data models for projects, programs, and financial controls
• Architect APIs and integrations (ERP, vendors, GIS, reporting tools)
• Lead offshore engineering execution with high standards
• Ensure performance, security, and data governance
• Introduce practical AI-driven automation where it improves execution
• Prevent technical debt while maintaining speed
You will serve as both architect and builder, not just manager.
What Success Looks Like (First 12 Months)
• A stable, scalable operational platform
• Cleanly structured project and program management system
• Integrated financial tracking (budget vs actual, forecasting visibility)
• Reduced manual coordination across operations
• Clear roadmap for analytics evolution
• Engineering standards and documentation in place
Required Experience
• 10+ years in software engineering and architecture
• Proven experience building and scaling operational platforms
• Deep understanding of data modeling and system design
• Experience with low-code/no-code platforms (Airtable, Retool, similar)
• Strong API and integration experience
• Experience managing offshore engineering teams
• Practical exposure to AI tools and workflow automation

Total Yearly Salary Range: USD $35,000 to $50,000
Caliber will consider alternative related education and/or work experience for this role on a case-by-case basis.
