Your Role as a CAD Drafter
As a CAD Drafter, you will transform engineering concepts, field notes, and markups into accurate, buildable drawings that support utility and infrastructure projects. You’ll work closely with engineers, designers, and field personnel to develop and maintain detailed drawings for substations, transmission and distribution lines, and related civil and structural elements. Your work ensures that design intent is clearly communicated for construction, maintenance, and system improvement activities.
Key Responsibilities
• Create and edit detailed drawings for related utility infrastructure using AutoCAD and other CAD tools.
• Produce, revise, and maintain layouts, schematics, wiring diagrams, survey maps, and structural details to company and client standards.
• Convert engineering sketches, redlines, and field notes into accurate CAD drawings, incorporating revisions and markups in a timely manner.
• Apply and maintain drafting standards to ensure consistency and quality across all deliverables.
• Collaborate with engineers, field staff, and project managers to gather technical information and resolve drawing or design questions.
• Assist with drafting, design, and documentation tasks across multiple projects, including ad hoc assignments and support duties as needed.
Qualifications
• Associate’s degree or technical certification in CAD Drafting. Previous experience in lieu of degree accepted.
• At least 2-3 years of formal CAD training/experience with proficiency in AutoCAD 2D.
• Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Outlook) for documentation and coordination tasks.
• Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to follow established drafting standards and procedures
Preferred Experience
• 3 years of drafting experience in utility, civil, or electrical design environments, or equivalent project-based experience.
• Experience preparing and revising drawings for electric transmission, distribution, and substation projects.
• Familiarity with ANSI drafting practices, company/client CAD standards, and quality control processes for engineering drawings.
• Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams (Designers, Engineers, Project Managers, Field Engineers) on infrastructure projects.
