Key Responsibilities
- Managing project financials from setup through close-out, including creating the project in appropriate client systems, reviewing initial submission material for accuracy and completeness, and ensuring accurate project accounting.
- Communicating and collaborating effectively with Project Managers, finance teams, clients, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment on project budgets, forecasts, and spend.
- Owning the accuracy of financial forecasting by integrating and actively reviewing data from project progress, material reports, spend authorizations, and more.
- Monitoring and updating monthly individual project forecasts and identifying potential financial risks early.
- Coordinating spend authorization requests to maintain proper financial oversight on projects exceeding $100K.
- Identifying risks and discrepancies in project spend and working proactively with PMs and finance to resolve issues and optimize outcomes.
- Maintaining an organized approach to project financial documentation, forecast entries, and spend to support timely invoicing and project close-out.
- Conduct monthly budget check-ins with leadership to review department budgets, compare latest budget estimates to actual spend, assess risks and opportunities, and more.
The Ideal Candidate
- Strong experience in project-based financial analysis, ideally within utilities, engineering, or related industries.
- Skilled at forecasting, budgeting, and tracking large-scale project spend with high attention to detail and accuracy.
- Possess a growth mindset, continuously looking for ways to improve processes and enhance financial software tools/dashboards.
- Exhibit excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate financial information for project teams and leadership.
- Demonstrate strong organizational and multitasking abilities, managing multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
- Comfortable working collaboratively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in project financial analysis or accounting, preferably in utilities or engineering sectors.
- 5+ years of experience in managing financial forecasting, spend tracking, and contract compliance for projects exceeding $100K.
- Proficiency with financial systems and project accounting tools; advanced Excel skills required.
Preferred Experience
- Experience in the utility or power distribution sector, with familiarity in working with large utilities.
